POSTPONED! We have made the difficult decision to postpone the Star Valley Quilt Trail this year. With the seriousness of COVID-19 it would be irresponsible to hold such an event. Looking ahead we have rescheduled for August 19-21, 2021.

“Barn” Quilt Block

The summer of 2019 the Star Valley Quilt Trail challenged the residents of Star Valley to join other Wyoming cities to put this valley on the Wyoming Quilt Trail map by designing and installing “barn” quilt blocks on their homes, outbuildings, businesses – anywhere they could be viewed from the road.

We are so pleased to announce the gratifying response to our challenge.  We had 32 blocks entered by 25 families.  Thank you all so much!!

Our judges: Commissioner Robert King, Sarah Hale of SVI Media, and Linda Taylor, renowned quilt artist. All gave of their time to judge each “barn” block individually.  A challenge to narrow this field of widely varying designs to the top four.  We are thrilled to announce the winners:

First Prize: Sunflower by: Kathy and Mike Clay – 5481 Hwy 34, Freedom

Second Prize: Cascading Stars by: Pat Carter and Don Snyder – 107711 Hwy 89, Etna

Third Prize: Patriotic Pinwheel by: Marilyn Heggenstaller – 5030 Bedford Turnerville Rd, Turnerville

Star Valley Quilt Trail Prize: Sugar Star by: Nola, Myla, Kyla and Ella Simpson – 390 Roberts Rd, Thayne

We have started a Google Map with locations and photographs of the “barn” blocks in the valley.  We intend to put all quilt blocks on the map. In fact, we will include “barn” quilt blocks that were not entered in the contest. If you are inspired to paint a quilt block for your building, “barn”, or home and would like to be included on the Wyoming Quilt Trail contact us: we’ll put you on the map. Quilt blocks are to be viewed from a road. Recommended size 4’ x 4’, minimum size 2’ x 2’ stunning size 8’ x 8’.

These blocks will be a source of pride for the entire valley for years to come.  We look forward to enticing even more visitors to our valley as we promote the “Barn” Quilt Blocks as part of the next Star Valley Quilt Trail, returning from the COVID-19 postponement, August 19-21, 2021.
